jonspace | I recently purchased this from eBay (271440956763) and received it today. The certificate I received looks different than the one from the listing, and the signatures are printed on. Is this real or did I receive a fake item? I can't seem to find any other information online. |
Greggy_D | The certificate is definitely different. Did you contact the seller? On a related note, the listing makes no mention of authentic, original signatures. |
Michael Clemente | The seller is Tony Landis. Believe me, all his stuff is legit. If he said it was flown, it was flown. I've been dealing with Tony for years and never had a problem. The certificate may be a copy of the original but the flag was flown. |
Greggy_D | The certificate is not a copy of the original that was presented in the eBay listing. Look at the NASA logo in the upper left hand corner. |
Michael Clemente | There were probably different versions of the certificate made. He might of received one of the other versions. Sometimes Tony has the NASA logo in different locations on the certificate and different versions of the logo. |
jonspace | Website looks okay (same certificate as received). Wonder why it was changed on the eBay listing?
|
Greggy_D | Why create different versions of certificates when only 25 flags were flown? |
X-Plane Fan | The logo was changed at the request of an individual at NASA who explained the the meatball is not to be used for unofficial items such as this. As a regular seller on eBay, I would appreciate it if you would contact me for the explanation rather than post your concern on a public forum. I'm glad to answer any questions from my customers. |
Greggy_D | In defense of the buyer, if the presented certificate in the original listing matched what he received, then this posting most likely would never have been made. |
jonspace | So does that mean the original certificate has real signatures or are they reprints as well? I love this mission and the flag I purchased but I want to make sure the flag and certificate are genuine. |
Greggy_D | You should not expect your certificate to include real, original, authentic signatures since the eBay listing did not advertise as such. |
fredtrav | Tony is a great person to work with and his stuff is genuine. Rarely do the certificates have real signatures. Look at the flown shuttle flags, they mostly have preprinted signatures, same for a lot of the Apollo flown flags. |

The key difference is surely that the official NASA presentations with printed signatures are produced on behalf of - and with signatures reproduced with the implicit agreement of - the astronauts/signees. If these certificates are being produced with the explicit agreement of Fullerton and Brockett then I see no problem here. On the other hand if it's being done without their permission that would be a serious issue. |
